Early Learning Matters!

Early Learning Matters Week has been celebrated across Australia this week to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of early childhood education in a child’s development and overall health and wellbeing.
In recognition of the Week, Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Learning Donna Faragher joined Playgroup WA for the launch of their 1000 Days at Playgroup Project and the Mother-Baby Nurture short film along with representatives from a range of early childhood organisations from across the sector.
“These initiatives strongly reflect the importance of the early years which have long been identified as a critical period in a child’s life marked by rapid transformations in physical, cognitive, social and emotional development,” Mrs Faragher said.
“Along with community-based organisations, education and care services and schools have a significant role in ensuring children have the best possible start in life.
“Community kindergartens, like Bullsbrook Community Kindergarten which I visited this week, are a great example and are an important option for many families,” Mrs Faragher said.
With a strong emphasis on play-based learning, community kindergartens are purpose-built for kindergarten children and are managed by parent committees in collaboration with dedicated teaching staff provided through the Department of Education.
“It is so important we recognise the significance of the early years and acknowledge the commitment of early childhood educators and staff, care services, schools and everyone involved in this important sector,” Mrs Faragher said.
