The Opposition has welcomed the State Government’s announcement today to further expand the vaccination rollout to West Australians aged 30 years old and over.
Opposition Leader Mia Davies said it was a good move by the Government to start offering the Pfizer vaccine for the next age bracket.
“It’s great to see that those aged 30 and over, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over 16, will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination.
“We’re already seeing huge demand on the Roll Up for WA website today which clearly indicates WA residents are keen to get the jab,” she said.
“I encourage everyone eligible to make a booking to get vaccinated.
“It is important for all West Australians to roll up their sleeves and receive the vaccination so we as a State and as a nation can begin returning to normalcy.”
Ms Davies said it was imperative for the Labor Government to deliver more regional clinics, especially in major regional centres where GPs were already stretched thin.
“While residents in Bunbury will soon have access to the first regional community vaccination clinic from Thursday, there are scores of other rural communities that must not be left behind.
“We are also looking forward to hearing more detail from the State Government surrounding their regional mobile clinic initiative – including when this will begin and where it will be
available.”
Shadow Health Minister Libby Mettam said the fast-tracked rollout was a positive step forward, but the Government needed to ensure those vulnerable were vaccinated.
“It’s good news most adults in our State are now able to get the jab however it is concerning that a significant number of those aged 50 years and older still have not received their first vaccination,” Ms Mettam said.
“Communication is key, and we encourage the Government to expand their efforts into providing education and support to ensure this cohort is vaccinated with the urgency they deserve.”
